Future Sailors Tour Britannia Yacht Club ...On October 24, 1995, Ottawa Sailing School hosted a class of grade six students from D. Aubrey Moodie Intermediate School who are working at building model boats as part of a school project. Fun was had by all. The students had a tour of BYC, watched a sailing video, assisted in rigging up a couple of Lasers and watched some short match racing in front of the Club breakwall. It couldn't have been a better day - sunny skies with a stiff 15 knot breeze from the south. Many thanks to Bob Yuile who set up the courses for the match racing and to David Foy who participated with Ron Schute in the races.Over the winter the students will design and build model boats using, as a base, boat plans that were graciously donated by Bruce Kirby. In the spring they will bring their creations back to BYC for a model boat race. While they are here, Ottawa Sailing School will take them out for a sail so that they can discover what this wonderful sport is all about. We'll keep you posted about the race date. Who knows....we may have a future famous racer or boat designer in our midst! If there is anyone who might have any model boat building experience that they can pass on, the teacher leading the project would be most appreciative if you would give him a call.
