Fly and Ferry...
Early morning departure from a main Canadian Center - Ottawa (YOW),
Toronto (YYZ), Montreal (YUL) etc.
This takes you into a main US hub airport. As to which hub, all
depends on which carrier you are with - Philadelphia(PHL), Chicago, and
Miami etc.
Then on to St. Thomas, US VI (STT).
A five-minute cab ride then takes you to the Charlotte Amalie Ferry
Dock. From the dock there are 2 or 3 ferry companies that will deliver
you to Tortola. (Fast Ferry to Road Town) The ferry ride is 45 minute to a hour
depending on the company.
You need to be on the ground by 3pm in order to make the last ferries of the day! As of posting the last ferry leaves at 4:15 pm.
The ferry routes - here again there are possibilities...
1) Straight to Road Town, Tortola.
2) West End, Tortola and then on to Road Town
3) Just to West End, Tortola.
At either West End or Road Town you will clear British Customs.
West End is a 15-minute cab ride to the base in Road Town.
Pricing as of August 17, 2010 is listing at $850.00 CDN.
There are a couple
of extra ground transfers required on this route option.
One side note - as we learned in January 2005 - it is much easier
for Sunsail to provide service to you when you fly into Beef Island.
Helping you deal with lost luggage or at the end of your trip on
checking the scheduling of your flights out.
